Lesson: Shrimp Recompose Guard
The student practicing the Shrimp to Recompose Guard will start in Side Control bottom with Home Alone Hands (see graphic). The assisting student will orient their body in Side Control with one hand by the head and the other hand over the body by the hip. While building this skill set, the assisting student should leave enough space that their bodies are not touching.
The Practicing student will use a Forearm Wedge under the chin and a framing hand on the hip while moving their hips away (shrimping). Enough space should be made with the Shrimp to bring the knee into the hipline of the assisting student.
If there is enough space to get the leg across to Closed Guard then the student will progress to Closed Guard. Allow students to find creative ways to deal with the crowded spacing (keep in mind that the assisting student should not be heavy, nor should they excessively crowd the space).
