Lesson: Collar Snatch from Closed Guard
The practicing student will start in the Closed Guard with a Cross Collar Grip. The assisting student will have mild posture to allow a clean grip on the collar.
The practicing student will move into the “watching TV” position with one hand in the collar and the opposing foot placed on the beltline/hip area. The outside foot should be placed on the floor as a post to be able to lift the hips. The free hand is placed on the floor comfortably behind the practicing student to create a second post to lift the body.
The practicing student will then lift their body off of the posted foot and posted hand while gently pushing with the foot on the hip. The goal is to create tension between the foot on the hip and the hand in the collar. This will help break their posture, but also keep their hips away long enough to complete a Technical Stand Up.
Care should be given that the practicing student does not smash the face of the assisting student into their own knee when stepping back. This becomes an issue as the intensity of the Technical Stand Up increases. Please reference the video to make sure you understand the leg switching.
Once the student has obtained the standing position, they should use the hand in the collar to pull their partner to the turtle position and then transition to Top Turtle Control.
