Purpose
Build, develop and reinforce a fundamental passing technique.
Description
Training Partner Starting Position. The assisting student will start flat on their back with their legs bent and their feet on the practicing student’s belt. Their hands will be in the Home Alone position.
Practicing Student. The practicing student will stand directly in front of the assisting student close enough that the assisting student can place their bent legs on the belt.
To start the drill. The practicing student will start by grabbing both ankles with a Power C Grip. Next, the practicing student will let go of one ankle and reinforce the remaining Power C Grip with a Cuff Grip on the pants. This will leave the practicing student with a 2 on 1 grip with one hand in the Power C and the other hand in the Cuff Grip. The practicing student will then exaggerate a hip thrust forward. The goal is to apply pressure to the assisting students feet and partially compress the assisting student’s knees towards their chest. After applying pressure, the practicing student will quickly withdraw their hips while stepping out and away from the assisting student’s guard. The hands will guide the assisting student’s leg across the outside of the hip while squatting.
The grips on the leg should then pull backwards, pushing the ankle behind the practicing student. As the leg is stretched, the practicing student should crowd the space on the outside of the leg with their thigh and hips. When the leg has been secured the practicing may switch to the Football Grip by first letting go of the cuff grip and cupping the hand on the front of the student’s knee, and then by releasing the Power C grip to cup the knee. This will leave the leg draped across the practicing student’s thigh, on the outside of the assisting student’s legs, with both arms hugging the knee.
To reset the practicing student will stand up and quickly pivot their body back in front of the assisting student allowing the legs to be placed back on the hips. The drill should then be repeated to the other side.
